The importance of self-care (2018)

You know when your phone doesn’t work and you have to turn it off for a few minutes, then turn it back on, and 99% of the time, it works again?  Well, that’s pretty much how your body works.  You have to take care of it, charge it, for it to work at maximum level.

Easier said than done for most people.

“Most” people don’t or won’t, take the time to take care of themselves and/or their bodies.  And then they wonder why they feel like shit most of the time.  Not to mention, look like shit!  Sorry, just speaking the truth.

Many folks will think nothing of paying $500.00/month for a car lease.  And ask those same folks to get a gym membership, and the answer is a solid NO.

It’s the start of Spring here in New York.  And I see my neighbors out, fixing their homes from the damages of a fierce Winter that we had here.  Lots of fallen trees and broken fences, myself included.  I had a tree fall in my driveway during one of those nasty Winter storms.  I also had my fence collapse, and now am getting a new one put up in a couple of weeks.  That’s what you do with your house, you fix it up when it needs it.

And yet, we don’t do the same thing for ourselves.  How hard do YOU think you are on your body?  And how much self-care do you give it?  When was the last time you exercised?  Took a long walk?  Got a massage?  A facial?  Took a Zumba or Yoga class?  Did any kind of physical activity to get your heart rate up?

And then there is what I call, the Spiritual self-care.  How are you feeding your spirit these days?  Do you listen to uplifting music?  Do you read uplifting material?  What comes up on your feeds on social media?  Is it things that make you feel good?  If not, you need to start deleting now.

From the time you wake up, till the time you go to bed, you should be filling your brain/spirit with as much positive, uplifting material as possible.  How else do you think you are going to have “happy, positive” thoughts?  How do you think you are going to achieve your dreams if you are not taking in positive, emotional charged information!

The excuses:

I don’t have time.

I don’t have money.

I’m too old, I can’t.

I’m young, I don’t need too.

I hate exercise.

Too much work.

Life is too hard, I just can’t.

I work a lot, have a wife/husband, kids/dog, boyfriend/girlfriend, cat, bird, fish, I just don’t have time!!!

To which I would add, like everything else in life, “if there is a will, there is a way!”

Talk soon,

Patti <3
