“It’s the little things!” (1.17.17)

Patricia Bokowski, haven’t you always found your way?
Hasn’t there always been a light in the darkness?
Haven’t you always gotten back up?
Haven’t there always been serendipitous surprises, unexpected twists, and triumphant comebacks?
And haven’t you always had someone to love?
Coincidences? Or maybe, do you think, you, too, have always been loved?

It’s the little things!

For as long as I can remember.

Starting with my boys being babies.

I started telling them.

At a very early age.

That good manners.

Will get you a lot further in life.

That being smart.

That’s right!

You know why?

Because most people.

Don’t possess good manners.

And that’s why.

When you run across someone who does.

They stand out!

I’m telling you.

Good manners will truly get you further in life.

Here’s something that I absolutely hate.

When it comes to good manners.

Gum chewing.

And do you know who else hates it?

Oprah.

She absolutely hates it!

Just like me.

I will tell you right up front.

It’s disgusting.

And it makes you look bad.

Let me break it down.

You look like a cow.

When you chew gum, yes, a cow.

It does nothing.

To enhance your image in any way, shape or form.

Have you ever looked.

At yourself in the mirror when you are chewing gum?

If not, you should.

And brace yourself, it’s not pretty πŸ˜‰

In fact, the other day I was shopping.

And noticed a mother and daughter together.

From the back, they were dressed very nicely.

And then they turned around.

Both of them chewing gum.

Ruined their entire look. πŸ€¦β€β™‚οΈπŸ€¦β€β™‚οΈπŸ€¦β€β™‚οΈ

I’m sure they had no idea.

I just don’t get why people chew gum?

To keep your breath fresh?

That’s why there’s mints.

Toothbrush and toothpaste.

Mouthwash.

Peppermint leaves.

Certain oils.

And so many more options.

And if you tell me it’s to curb your appetite,

I would say, find another option.☝☝☝

Smoking?

Another BAD habit.

Smoking?

Just don’t do it.

Really.

Aside the obvious, CANCER.

There’s you smelling bad.

Your breath, yuck.

Ever be around someone who is a heavy smoker?

I can’t stand it, I have to walk away.

Literally makes me sick to my stomach.

And forget about dating.

Someone who smokes.

Did it once.

Never again!!!

And now for the really important stuff!

Say please and thank you πŸ‘ˆπŸ‘ˆπŸ‘ˆ

Get into the habit of saying it all the time.

And to everyone!

It amazes me to this day.

That so many people don’t?

Isn’t that like LIFE #101.

From the time my kids were little.

I taught them to say please and thank you!

And as they got a bit older.

I explained.

How having good manners.

Will get you further in life than being smart.

Very true!

It takes nothing to be nice, so be nice!

Make eye contact.

Ever had a conversation with someone.

And they were either looking down, past you or up?

Or worse.

Staring at their phone.

Yeah.

Like that!

It is extremely important.

When it comes to good manners.

It shows respect.

To whoever you are speaking with.

Everyone wants to feel acknowledged.

So make sure your body language is open.

Friendly and forthright.πŸ‘ˆπŸ‘ˆπŸ‘ˆ

Smile πŸ˜‰

You KNEW that one was coming!

That is a huge one in the manners department.

I am so turned off by people who don’t smile.

And I get.

That some people just don’t have a smile in them.

But still.

I’m not saying you need to walk around.

With a huge grin on your face all the time.

I’m saying when you pass someone by.

You give a little smile (which says, I see you).

Sometimes it’s the smallest things.

That have the biggest meaning.

And mostly.

Because you never know who needs it πŸ™‚

You know.

One little smile from you to someone else.

Can make someone’s entire day!

That’s my personal philosophy.

I always like to leave people a little happier after I leave.

Quick story. NineFrogs Daily QUOTE OF THE DAY:

I went to see my doctor yesterday.

So it was the doctor, the nurse and a medical student.

And me in the office.

So I told them all a funny story.

About when I got called for jury duty back in October.

By the time they left, everyone was laughing and smiling.

That’s what I’m talking about!

Life is hard enough.

So if you find yourself.

With an opportunity to make someone smile.

Take it!

Several years ago.

I was at a networking event.

And this man gave a speech.

He was the CEO of a big company.

We’ll call him Bob.

And he had an open position.

For a high-level executive in his company.

And someone recommended a certain person to him.

So he arranged with this man.

To meet him for breakfast at the local diner.

For his interview.

We’ll call him Jim.

Bob said he ‘always’ interviewed people at the diner.

So the day comes for the interview.

Bob meets Jim at the diner.

And he tell us his first impression of Jim.

Was very good.

He was well-dressed.

Had a nice smile.

He said he was initially very impressed.

So after looking at the menu.

The are read to order.

So now the waitress comes over.

To take their orders.

Jim orders first.

And as Jim is speaking with the waitress.

Bob is shocked with how Jim.

Is speaking to the waitress.

Being extremely rude.

The waitress then takes Bob’s order.

And leaves the table.

She returns with a pot of coffee.

And once again.

Jim is rude to the waitress.

So they eat their breakfast.

Bob interviews him over breakfast.

And Bob can’t help but notice.

That everytime the waitress comes over.

Jim is rude to her.

So, the finish breakfast.

And walk out of the diner.

Jim looks at Bob and says:

“So what do you think?

Think I am a good fit for the position?”

To which Bob answered:

“Jim, you come highly recommended.

You definitely have the skills to do this job.

But unfortunately, you were extremely rude.

To the waitress.

And I don’t hire rude people!”

Lesson learned.

Don’t be rude.

No one likes it.
